Ellen Frishberg's Biography

With a long career in enrollment and financial aid services at some of the nation’s most selective colleges and universities, including Johns Hopkins University, Dr. Ellen Frishberg now offers her extensive knowledge and expertise to families seeking the best fit and value options for their college bound children. Ellen has helped many families identify a list of affordable college options, work through the application and interview/audition/portfolio processes, and can advise on how to best show your interest in schools that are on the top of a student’s list. With multiple admission offers in hand, Ellen can help you to weigh the options, and navigate financing. In addition, Ellen has been a higher education researcher and can locate the most obscure data, data that provides insights into what drives a college’s recruitment efforts. She has worked as a consultant on improving student aid processes at the US Department of Education, and represented 800 private college presidents as a student aid advocate. She has testified before the Senate and Congressional advisory committees on financial literacy and other issues that affect college students. A recognized financial aid policy and process expert, Ellen served for many years on national financial aid, admissions and scholarship selection committees. She has written extensively on admission and financial aid, for example, serving as technical editor for the Financial Aid for Dummies series. Ellen is a native of New York City, lives in Ellicott City, MD with her husband, and has two children in college studying art and music (Carnegie Mellon and Indiana University of PA). She received her doctorate in Higher Education Management from the University of Pennsylvania, and attended both the State University of New York at Binghamton and at Albany.
